Install Minecraft Mods and Plugins via SFTP
MinecraftPanel
Why SFTP
Panel browser uploads work for small files. SFTP (FileZilla, WinSCP, Cyberduck) is more reliable for large jars, bulk mod folders, and flaky Wi-Fi. Use the SFTP credentials shown on your server page at panel.glasshosting.com, not your billing password.
Steps
- Create a named backup first (backups before mods).
- Stop the server cleanly.
- Connect with SFTP to the host/port/user from the panel.
- Upload
.jarfiles toplugins/on Paper/Spigot, or the correctmods/path on Forge/Fabric. - Do not mix Paper plugins into a modpack tree (or the reverse).
- Start; watch Enabling lines and the first stack trace if something fails.
- Add one change at a time when diagnosing.
Version matching
- Plugin must match Minecraft + Paper major version.
- Mods must match the pack’s loader and Minecraft version.
- After a game update, expect to refresh jars. Backup before you do.
Verify / done
- Console shows the new plugin/mod enabling without a crash loop.
- In-game feature you installed actually works for one test player.
- You can restore the pre-change backup if not.
