Upload Your Minecraft World to GlassHosting

When this guide applies

You already have a world you care about—single-player saves, a LAN realm, or a home PC server—and you want friends joining on GlassHosting (Glass Gaming — powered by GlassHosting) without starting from scratch.

This is file migration, not a magic “import” button. Treat it like moving a database: backup, copy carefully, point the server at the right folder, then smoke-test.

Backup before you touch anything

  1. On GlassHosting, take a named panel backup of the empty or current server before replacing world files.
  2. On your PC, zip a copy of the world folder (or whole .minecraft/saves entry) so you can roll back locally.
  3. Note the exact world folder name—Java is case-sensitive on Linux hosts.

Never overwrite live files while the process is running. Stop the server cleanly from the panel first.

Find the world folder

  • Single-player Java: usually .minecraft/saves/YourWorldName/ (contains level.dat, region/, often DIM-1/ / DIM1/).
  • Existing dedicated server: the folder named in level-name inside server.properties (often world).
  • Bedrock: worlds live under different paths and formats—do not drop a Bedrock world into a Java server (or the reverse).

Confirm edition and major version match what your GlassHosting Minecraft service expects before you upload.

Upload via SFTP or the file manager

  1. Stop the Minecraft service in panel.glasshosting.com.
  2. Connect with SFTP (or use the panel file manager) to the server root.
  3. Upload your world folder as a sibling of server.properties—for example MySMP/ with level.dat inside it.
  4. If you are replacing the default world folder, rename or remove the old one first (after the panel backup), then upload yours as world—or keep your name and update level-name.
  5. Set level-name=YourFolderName in server.properties to match the uploaded directory exactly.
  6. Start the server and watch the console for world-load errors.

Large worlds take time. Prefer a stable wired connection for multi-GB uploads. Related: SFTP mods and plugins and backups before mods.

Verify before inviting friends

  • Join yourself from the client matching the server version.
  • Walk a known landmark—spawn, builds, chests—to confirm it is your world.
  • Check ops/whitelist: home ops.json / whitelist files may need re-applying after migration.
  • Share the GlassHosting join address (IP or hostname plus port from the panel)—not a home LAN IP.

If the world fails to load, stop, restore the panel backup, and ticket with the console error lines. Deeper ops live in the GlassHosting knowledgebase.

Why host after you migrate

GlassHosting runs always-on datacenter hosting so CGNAT and home power outages are not your friends’ problem. Migrate the world once; keep scheduled backups on the panel so the next change is boring.
