Whitelist Players on a Private Minecraft Realm

Why whitelist first

A private friend SMP should not be joinable by every random Internet address that finds your IP:port. Whitelist is the simplest gate: only listed usernames can connect. Turn it on before you share the join string widely.

Enable whitelist (console + properties)

  1. Open the console on panel.glasshosting.com.
  2. Run:
whitelist on
whitelist add ExactPlayerName
whitelist list
  1. Also set white-list=true in server.properties (file manager or SFTP), then restart so the file and live state agree.
  2. Use the exact Java username (case-sensitive). Bedrock/Xbox names follow Bedrock rules. Do not mix editions.

Useful companions: whitelist remove PlayerName, whitelist reload after editing whitelist.json by hand.

Ops vs whitelist

  • Whitelist: who may connect.
  • Ops: who may run privileged commands (/gamemode, /op, stop, etc.).

Keep the op list tiny (you + one trusted co-admin). Whitelist can be the whole friend group. Never paste op or SFTP credentials into a public Discord channel.

Verify / done

  • whitelist list shows every friend who should join.
  • A non-listed alt account is rejected; a listed friend joins cleanly.
  • After a world upload or restore, re-check whitelist/ops: JSON files may have been overwritten.
